The Audi A4 Black Edition is launching in South Africa soon in four specifications starting at R900,000.
The popular four-door has been on sale in its current form since 2020 in Standard, Advanced, and S Line trims, with the Black Edition invigorating the line-up with a more stylish option than what was previously available.
“In the case of the A4 Black Edition, the cost of this special-edition model is significantly lower were these items to be optioned individually,” said Audi.
The Black Edition is scheduled to go on sale in “early 2024” and only 100 examples of the sedan will be available to local buyers.
Black Edition specifications
The Black Edition models offer distinctive looks in the A4 family courtesy of standard fitment of the usually-optional Black Styling Package that brings blackened accents on the grille and bumpers, mirror housings, window surrounds, and badging, in addition to tinted privacy glass.
Moreover, these special-edition sedans wear the S Line exterior pack with sportier bumpers, Matrix LED headlights, as well as unique 19-inch alloy wheels.
The S Line interior option is also selected, seeing accent surfaces in gloss black, a dark headliner, stainless steel foot pedals, electric Sports seats in fine Nappa leather with S embossing, and illuminated scuff plates with the S logo.
A glass sunroof, central touchscreen with navigation and Audi Connect, three-zone automatic air-conditioning, digital driver’s display, rear-view camera, and wireless charger are fitted, too.
For the sportier S4, the equipment list continues with a carbon rear spoiler, premium Bang&Olufsen sound system, and front Sports Seats Plus with diamond quilting, heating, massaging, and pneumatic lumbar support.
The three A4 Black Edition options are only separated by their choice of powerplant, two being available in petrol and one in diesel.
The petrol variants both employ a 2.0-litre, turbocharged unit developing 110kW and 270Nm at a combined fuel usage of 6.1l/100km in the 35TFSI variant, and 140kW and 320Nm at 6.3l/100km in the 40TFSI.
The 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel 35TDI pushes out 110kW and 320Nm, and achieves an economical 5.0l/100km fuel spend.
All A4 Black Edition models then drive the front wheels only via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with the 35TFSI dispensing the 0-100km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds, the 35TDI in 8.7 seconds, and the 40TFSI in 7.3 seconds.
As for the S4, this model utilises a 3.0-litre, V6, turbo-petrol block generating 260kW and 500Nm at 8.6l/100km. An eight-speed shifter directs power down to the quattro all-wheel-drive system, resulting in a 0-100km/h sprint of 4.7 seconds and top speed of 250km/h.
