The limited-edition Omoda C5 GT is now on sale in South Africa as the flagship of the range, starting at R589,000.
The GT is the most powerful Omoda on the local market and offers a dynamic look courtesy of model-exclusive cosmetic enhancements, and “fewer than 100” examples of the sporty Chinese crossover will be available to local buyers.
C5 GT specifications
The new C5 GT is available in a variety of eight different exterior customisations, allowing buyers to personalise the crossover to their unique tastes.
It showcases a more athletic appearance than its siblings underscored by a lower front bumper, a split headlight design, T-shaped daytime running lights, front and rear spoilers, side skirts, an aerodynamic rear wing, “urban flowing” matrix LED taillights, red brake calipers, gold 18-inch Sports alloy wheels, and gold finishes and badging,
There are also 13 colour combinations on the palette, including seven mono-tone options, three mono-tone hues with red highlights, and three duo-tone paints.
The GT’s standard Piano Black interior is meant to complement the bespoke exterior, and it brings an extensive equipment sheet as part of its positioning as the brand’s crown jewel.
Buyers can expect a powered sunroof, automatic LED lights, automatic wipers, an electric tailgate, keyless entry and start, electric Sports seats with ventilation, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, a 50W wireless charger, and multi-colour ambient lighting.
The dash incorporates two 10.25-inch displays under one panel for the driver and infotainment functions, providing abilities such as voice commands and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Completing the package is a suite of driver assistance systems comprising adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and prevention, emergency lane-keeping, integrated cruise assist, traffic-congestion assist, a 360-degree camera programme, and front and rear parking sensors.
The new C5 GT then comes fitted with a 1.6-litre, turbocharged petrol engine under the hood that generates 145kW and 290Nm – as opposed to the 1.5-litre block of its namesakes that put out 115kW and 230Nm.
It is also the only C5 that is equipped with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox as the rest makes do with a continuously variably transmission (CVT), though the entire series is front-wheel drive only.
With this more powerful setup, the GT eclipses 100km/h in 7.8 seconds and reports a combined fuel usage of 6.8l/100km, achieved through the assistance of an efficiency-boosting 12V Start/Stop system.
