New BMW XM Label Red pricing revealed – The most expensive BMW in South Africa

The South African pricing has finally been revealed for the incoming BMW XM Label Red – the most powerful M car ever made.

According to our sources at Douporta vehicle information specialists, the uprated super SUV will have a starting price of R4.2 million, making it the most expensive BMW in the country by a significant margin.

This is R800,000 above the standard XM, but the Label Red has several things going for it that make up for its even larger price tag.

Cranking things up to 11

The XM is BMW’s answer to the increasingly popular super SUV category populated by models like the Ferrari Purosangue and Lamborghini Urus, and has the stats to back up this claim with a 4.4-litre TwinPower turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which receives additional assistance from an electric motor and a 25.7kWh battery.

It is the M division’s first-ever plug-in hybrid, and while the standard car was no slouch with a combined output of 480kW and 800Nm, the minds behind this creation clearly thought it could still do with a bit more, as the new Label Red boasts an absurd 550kW and 1,000Nm.

This reduces the otherwise bulky 2.7-tonne car’s 0-100km/h acceleration time down from an already short 4.3 seconds to just 3.8 seconds.

It has an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h, but customers can opt for the M Driver’s package, which raises this limit to 290km/h.

The XM uses an xDrive all-wheel-drive system, and gear changes are handled by an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

It also features a rear diff lock, adaptive M suspension, electronically-controlled dampers, active roll stabilization, rear-wheel steering, and even a new Sand driving mode.

Thanks to its plug-in hybrid status, the SUV can drive for up to 83km at 140km/h exclusively on electric power, which lends it a fuel consumption of just 2.0l/100km if this is taken advantage of for most day-to-day trips.

Paint it red

As its name would imply, the flagship Label Red features an even more extroverted design both inside and out with a black-and-red theme.

While the base XM features gold-coloured accents on several components, its sibling uses a Toronto Red Metallic finish for the window lining, kidney grille, badges, and even the massive 22-inch alloy wheels.

Likewise, the leather seats have a diamond pattern with a red contrast stitch, and items like the air vents now have a crimson finish. The dashboard features a carbon fibre trim, and other elements like the headliner and gearstick have a high-gloss black finish.

Equipment on the exclusive model includes heated and ventilated M Sport seats, a dual-curved Live Cockpit display with a 12.3-inch driver monitor and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, an M leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, ambient cabin lighting, a wireless charger, and dual-zone climate control.

It also has assistance and safety offerings in the form of front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, front collision warning, lane-departure warning, evasion assist, a speed limiter, parking assist, and driver alert monitoring.

More information on the BMW XM Label Red, including its South African launch date, will be revealed in the coming weeks.
