GWM and Haval have updated the warranty and service plans on their most popular vehicles in South Africa, making them significantly longer.
Our sources at Duoporta vehicle information specialists recently brought this change to our attention, revealing that the GWM P-Series, as well as the Haval Jolion HEV and H6 HEV, all had their post-purchase support improved by a wide margin.
GWM didn’t clarify why it made these changes, however, it’s worth noting that its main rival Chery provides a 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty on all its cars, so it’s possible that this could have motivated the Chinese firm to offer more competitive after-sales agreements on its products.
Greater value for money
Previously, the Jolion and H6 HEVs were sold with a 5-year/100,000km general vehicle warranty, but this has been updated to now cover a 7-year/200,000km period – improving the year allowance by 40% and doubling the distance covered.
Another improvement was made to the SUVs’ service plan, which previously afforded owners coverage for 5 years or 60,000km, but has since seen its mileage changed to 75,000km, though the time-span is still the same.
With service intervals scheduled for every 15,000km, this means buyers will effectively get an additional service for free if they cover a greater distance within the allotted time frame.
However, one aspect of the vehicles’ aftermarket support that is unchanged is the hybrid battery warranty, which is untouched at 8 years or 150,000km.
The Jolion and H6’s window stickers have not been affected by the extended warranty and service plan, and they are currently retailing for the following prices in South Africa:
- Haval Jolion 1.5 HEV Luxury – R549,950
- Haval Jolion 1.5 HEV Super Luxury – R579,950
- Haval H6 1.5T HEV Ultra Luxury – R679,950
The other beneficiary of the recent change is the GWM P-Series, bearing in mind that Haval Motors South Africa manages both the Haval and GWM brands locally.
The Chinese bakkie was originally shipped with a matching 5-year/100,000km warranty and service plan, but the latter has been doubled to cover a 10-year interval.
The warranty remains the same, and the service plan’s distance is still set at 100,000km, but it’s nonetheless useful to have a plan that won’t expire for another half decade if you maintain an average mileage of roughly 10,000km per year in that time.
Again, the P-Series’ price has not gone up to reflect the extension, and there are currently 17 different models to choose from, as shown below:
- GWM P-Series 2.0TD single cab SX – R413,050
