New BMW X2 – South African pricing listed

The new BMW X2 is scheduled for a South African release before the end of March and will be available in two flavours at launch both with the M Sport kit fitted as standard.

The second generation of the stylish crossover coupe will start at R878,804, our expert sources at Duoporta confirmed.

The new X2 is a complete upgrade over its predecessor with not a single body part carried over from the old model to the upcoming one, boasting an angular design, all-new interior, and two turbocharged engine options.

Features

Endowed with the athletic M Sport package, both the new X2 models wear sporty bumpers, high-gloss black exterior higlights, LED headlights with high-beam assist, and 19-inch wheels at the smallest.

Inside, standard trimmings include black Veganza perforated leather upholstery, Aluminium Hexacube finishes, front Sports seats, an M-specific leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a  “floating” armrest with an integrated control panel.

Potential buyers can additionally look forward to a 10.3-inch digital driver’s display, push-button start, two-zone automatic climate control, cruise control with a brake function, automatic tailgate operation, and a 10.7-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and BMW Maps navigation.

A host of digital services through the latest iDrive Operating System 9 are available, too, and over-the-air updates allow the SUV to stay up-to-date with the latest software as it becomes available.

Safety systems include front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill-start assist, ABS with brake assist, and seven airbags.

The top-spec M35i is then set apart from its namesake by the Iconic Glow kidney grille backlighting, an M rear spoiler, exclusive 21-inch alloys, Alcantara-wrapped panels inside the cabin, a Harman/Kardon stereo, and the Driving Assist Plus package which includes adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go.

Engines

The entry-level sDrive18i specification of the new X2 is driven by a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol unit that delivers 115kW and 230Nm, enabling the crossover to sprint to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds and reach a maximum of 213km/h.

The pricier M35i kicks it up a notch with a 2.0-litre mill that pushes out 233kW and 400Nm, bringing down the acceleration time to 5.4 seconds and raising top speed to 250km/h.

Power is channeled to the front axle in the sDrive18i and all four wheels in the M35i through a seven-speed automatic gearbox, with fuel consumption listed at 6.7l/100km and 7.8l/100km, respectively.

An automatic Start/Stop function is included across the range, as are Personal and Efficient drive modes and the Proactive Driving Assistant that manages gear selection based on user inputs to enhance fuel economy as well as safety.

Sharper handling and braking performance compared to the old X2 was achieved through the standard addition of adaptive M suspension alongside a new integrated braking system, extra lift-related damping at the front axle, a wider track, a longer wheelbase, and reduced kerb weight of 1,525-1,695kg – as well as M Sport brakes for the M35i.

Price

The South African pricing and model line-up for the new BMW X2 are as follows:

Each purchase includes a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
