Maserati has taken the covers off the new GranCabrio – the convertible sibling to the legendary GranTurismo.
100% made in Italy, the new twin-turbo cabriolet is on its way to local showrooms and is scheduled to make landfall in the latter months of 2024, the domestic arm of Maserati confirmed to TopAuto.
South African pricing for the GranCabrio will be announced closer to the time, said the brand.
Open-top Italian flair
At launch, the new Maserati convertible will be available in a single Trofeo trim level that boasts the most capable engine ever developed for the GranTurismo platform.
The 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V6 Nettuno powerplant ripped out of the MC20 serves up a monumental 404kW and 650Nm and is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission that twists both axles.
Full throttle, it’s able to reach 100km/h in less than four seconds and continue sprinting to a top speed of around 300km/h.
If all-out performance isn’t the theme for the day, Maserati said its new sports car was built to provide optimal comfort over long distances whether you’re alone or with three other passengers.
The journey can now be even more pleasurable as the GranCabrio brings a soft-top fabric roof that can hide itself in the boot in a matter of 14 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h.
High-quality materials adorn the cabin in the form of supple leather upholstery with intricate needlework on the seats, dash, and door panels; carbon fibre inserts in the centre console and doors; and stylish metal speaker grilles.
Among the Maserati’s many accoutrements are a digital dash measuring 12.2 inches, dual-zone climate control, front seat heating and ventilation, steering wheel heating, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and a digital clock face that can double as a G-meter.
For owners who love having the wind in their hair even during the winter, the GranCabrio also comes with a neck warmer as standard with three levels of intensity.
One of the optional extras is a foldable wind stopper that reduces the formation of turbulence inside the passenger compartment when the roof is down, thus making it possible to enjoy the best of the vehicle’s aerodynamics.
As with the GranTurismo, Maserati is expected to release a lower-spec GranCabrio Modena in the future that will have a detuned motor and slightly fewer standard amenities.
