Out of the 44,749 new vehicles sold in South Africa in February, none was as popular as the Toyota Hilux.
The bakkie pulled in as many as 3,100 buyers throughout the shortest month of the year, leaving a healthy gap of 913 units between itself and second place, the Ford Ranger.
The Toyota Corolla Cross landed up in third seeing 1,959 models being delivered to new owners, and in fourth was the VW Polo Vivo which had 1,861 registrations.
Another bakkie, the Isuzu D-Max, ranked fifth with 1,740 sales, the Suzuki Swift drove away with sixth with 1,627 sales, and seventh was awarded to yet another Toyota, the Starlet, owing to its 1,481 sales.
The Hyundai Grand i10, which is now available in hatchback and sedan body styles, ranked eighth with 1,313 units moved; and even in its final months on the market, the Nissan NP200 sat in a respectable ninth position with 1,276 units.
Grabbing the last spot in the top 10 was the Toyota Hiace, which was also the last vehicle to garner over 1,000 sales at a total of 1,167.
Moving on to 11th, the VW Polo raked in 988 buyers, in 12th, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro got 964, and in 13th, the Nissan Magnite got 847.
The 14th position was earned by the Toyota Fortuner with its 722 units sold, and 15th to the Mahindra Pik Up at 715 units.
The final five vehicles to make it into the top 20 were the Suzuki Ertiga (658), Toyota Urban Cruiser (649), Suzuki Baleno (585), Haval H6 (569), and Kia Sonet (552).
In total, these vehicles sold a collective 24,960 units in February, representing over 55% of the entire new-car market.
