New BMW X2 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new BMW X2 is now available in South Africa, offering two distinct flavours with the sDrive18i M Sport and the high-performance M35i.
The second-generation crossover coupe is listed on the company’s configurator, with pricing as follows:
- BMW X2 sDrive18i M Sport – R879,739
- BMW X2 M35i – R1,223,936
Each purchase comes with a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
Engines
The entry-level sDrive18i gets its power from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol plant that delivers 115kW and 230Nm.
This is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds before reaching a cap of 213km/h.
The full-fledged M35i ups the ante with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 233kW and 400Nm.
It uses the same gearbox but has an all-wheel-drive layout, and the culmination of these factors means the vehicle can rocket to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds and max out at 250km/h.
Fuel consumption is listed at 6.7l/100km for the sDrive18i and 7.8l/100km for the M35i.
These economy figures are possible thanks to a standard Stop/Start function, as well as two driving modes – Efficient and Personal – and a Proactive Driving Assistant that manages gear selections based on user inputs to maximize fuel usage.
Also standard across the range is adaptive M suspension, a near-actuator wheel slip limiter, a new integrated braking system, and extra lift-related damping for the front axle; and the M35i even benefits from new M Sport brakes.
Improving on the old models, the new X2 has a wider track, a longer wheelbase, and a reduced kerb weight of 1,525-1,695kg.
Features
Taking a look at its design, the new crossover coupe is rocking a sportier front bumper, LED headlights, chrome finishes, and bi-colour alloy wheels that measure between 19 and 21 inches, depending on the model.
The M35i also features a glow effect around the brand’s signature kidney grille, gloss black finishes instead of chrome, a M sport quad exhuast, and an M rear spoiler.
Inside, you’ll find a black Veganza perforated leather upholstery, an aluminium “Hexacube” finish on certain surfaces like the door handles and armrest, front Sport seats, an M-branded leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, a 10.3-inch digital driver display, and a 10.7-inch infotainment screen with the latest iDrive 9 operating system.
This system has BMW Maps navigation Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and can receive over-the-air software updates.
Assistance features include front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill-assist, ABS, and cruise control.
Those who upgrade to the top-spec M35i can additionally expect Alcantara finishes inside the cabin, a Harman Kardon stereo, and a Driving Assist Plus package with adaptive cruise control.
Optional extras include the Equipment package that adds adaptive LED headlights, keyless entry, heated auto-folding side mirrors, an anti-dazzle rearview mirror, and a wireless charging pad.
The Equipment package Professional includes all of this while adding a heads-up display and a Parking Assist Plus, and the M Sport package Pro comprises adaptive LED headlights, a high-gloss shadow line around the headlights, M-branded rear seat belts, and brake calipers with either a red high-gloss or dark blue metallic theme.
