Land Rover has updated the Discovery family in South Africa with new features across the range and spec upgrades for certain models.
Simultaneously, it has introduced two special-edition models: the Gemini and Tempest, the latter of which is touted as the “most luxurious Discovery ever.”
The three-row SUV is now available from a starting price of R1,824,700, reflecting an increase of R26,100 over the outgoing models.
What’s new
Updates to the standard Discovery range mostly comprise new wheels and upgraded accessory packs.
The five-spoke 22-inch Style 5124 wheel can now be specified with Dark Grey tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing across all variants.
As an option, the split-five-spoke 21-inch Style 5123 rims is available in black on the Dynamic HSE model.
The mid-range Discovery Dynamic HSE now also gets three-zone climate control for each row of seating.
In terms of accessory packs, buyers can choose from three new options going by the names of Beach Days, Road Trip, and Snow Days.
Beach Days includes bespoke sunshades in the second- and third-row windows, as well as the tailgate; a collapsible organiser for the load area; a versatile roof rack; and rubber floor mats.
For the Road Trip pack there are two seat organisers to keep possessions tidied out of the way, a centre armrest cooler, and an electric cool bag.
Cross bars for the roof rails and a roof box bring extra luggage capacity for long haul trips, while wind deflectors let the air in on sunny days without disturbing the calm inside.
Meanwhile, Snow Days adds cross bars for the standard roof rails to allow quick and easy carrying of skis and snowboards.
This is complemented by a rubber loadspace mat, mudflaps, and a snow traction system.
Gemini

As for the new special editions, these are intended to celebrate the 35-year anniversary of the Discovery nameplate.
The Gemini gets its name from the codename given to the innovative Tdi diesel engine that powered the original Discovery from 1989 which brought new levels of refinement to the powertrain.
The exclusive SUV is available in six exterior colours including Sedona Red – which is a first for Discovery and unique to this edition – with a Narvik Gloss Black contrast roof.
Gloss Black detailing extends to the lower body cladding and front wing vents, and it sports Atlas Gloss grille surrounds and Discovery script.
A Gemini-specific graphic on the B-pillar badges, treadplates, and interior finishers also features alongside new 21-inch split-seven-spoke alloy wheels finished in Diamond Turned Silver.
“The twinned-hexagon Gemini graphic reflects duality and togetherness, with a nod to the forms found on the Discovery grille,” said Land Rover.
It further brings a host of extra comfort and convenience features, including a cooler compartment located between the front seats, Click & Go media holders for rear-seat occupants, and three-zone climate control.
Tempest

The Discovery Tempest is meant to be the most luxurious, comfortable, and highly-specified of its kind ever produced.
Its nomenclature is derived from the secret development launch programme for the second-generation Discovery introduced in 1998 – one of the brand’s most recognisable models.
It is painted in one of three hues encompassing Carpathian Grey, Charente Grey, or Varesine Blue, all exclusively with a matte protective flm for the first time ever on Discovery.
A contrasting Petra Copper Gloss roof finish is standard – another first for this SUV – with Narvik Gloss Black available as an option.
The SUV is also dressed up with Petra Copper Gloss finishes on the wing vents, Discovery script, and lower bumper inserts.
In addition, the 22‑inch, diamond-turned-style alloy wheel design sports Petra Copper tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing.
The Tempest is further identified by unique badging for the B-pillars, treadplates, puddle lamps, and interior finishers.
“The spiral Tempest graphic represents power and movement,” said Land Rover.
Finally, the cabin is enhanced with Shadow Aluminium detailing and extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery.
Both Tempest and Gemini models are available with the D350 diesel engine featuring 48V mild‑hybrid tech.
The 3.0-litre powerplant generates 257kW and 700Nm which is delivered to the road surface via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and permanent all-wheel-drive system.
