Updated GWM P500 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

GWM has updated the P500 for the 2025 model year, making a handful of changes to the bakkie’s design.

The pricing and model lineup of the P500 series is the same as before, consisting of three derivatives with prices starting at R799,900.

New look

The revised pickup has been given a new look with the addition of blacked-out exterior details.

This includes a new gloss black finish for the grille and P logo, new black roof rails, a black styling bar, and black wing mirrors.

GWM states that the new add-ons help to emphasis the P500’s large proportions, thereby enhancing its aggressive stance.

“This latest styling update dials up the drama with black design cues that add further distinction to its muscular silhouette,” said the company.

The automaker has also added a “smoked glass” effect to the headlights and taillamps, which are meant to enhance the car’s high-tech feel.

It’s a rather modest update all in all, which is undoubtedly why the price hasn’t gone up, but to be fair, the P500 is still a relatively new bakkie that’s only been on the market for a year.

It already comes with an expansive spec sheet that includes automatic LED lights, side steps, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic wipers, keyless entry and start, leather seats, a digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and six speakers as standard.

All models are also sold with a driver assistance suite comprising front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, trailer sway mitigation with adaptive cruise, intelligent cruise assist, traffic jam assist, intelligent turning, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, driver fatigue monitoring, hill assist, lane-change assist, front-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian safety assist, and bicycle safety assist.

The mid-range Super Luxury units will then throw in an easy-lift tailgate with a 40:60 split, auto-adjusting fog lamps, an electric rear window, a panoramic sunroof, an electronic rearview mirror, electric front seats with heating, ventilation, and massaging, Nappa leather upholstery, a larger 14.6-inch touchscreen, a wireless charger, and a 220V power outlet.

On top of this, the range-topping Ultra Luxury is fitted with electric rear seats with heating and ventilation, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, a rear wireless charger, a heads-up display, a parking assistant, and a Harman Infinity sound system.

The base Luxury and Super Luxury are equipped with a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 135kW and 480Nm.

This is linked to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 8.6l/100km.

The Ultra Luxury, on the other hand, features a hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and an electric motor.

The result is a combined output of 255kW and 648Nm and a fuel usage stat of 9.8l/100km.

All three versions of the P500 come with an electronic rear diff lock and can tow up to 3,500kg.
