New Renault Kiger revealed – When you can buy it in South Africa

Renault has taken the covers off the facelifted Kiger, and the good news is that it is coming to South Africa.

The crossover, which is built at the Renault Nissan factory in Chennai in India, recently made its public debut, showcasing a revamped interior and exterior.

The imported Kiger is a popular option in South Africa, as it is one of the most affordable compact SUVs on the market with prices starting at R249,999.

Luckily, the updated version will make its way to our shores, and we won’t have to wait too long either.

The carmaker confirmed to Cars.co.za that the new Kiger will touch down in the final quarter of 2025, so it’s possible it could be in showrooms by October.

A new look for 2025

The Kiger’s cosmetic overhaul starts with a new front end, including a much more prominent lower bumper surround with a silver finish.

It also has a narrower, minimalist grille that forms a bridge between the slim L-shaped headlights and daytime running lights.

The triple element fog lamps have been upgraded to LEDs, and Renault’s updated diamond logo can be found in the centre of the grille.

The preview images also show a 16 of shiny new 16-inch alloy wheels which, given the market status of this car, will likely be reserved for the higher-end units.

At the back, the previous silver rear bumper appears to have been replaced by a new black bumper with faux exhaust ports.

The two-tone black roof is still an option, and there are two new paint options called Shadow Grey and Oasis Yellow.

Inside, the Indian crossover is shown to have two-tone black-and-white fabric seats with Renault logos, and surfaces like the armrest have black upholstery with a yellow contrast stitch pattern.

Depending on the trim level, the new Kiger can be fitted with items like a multifunction steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, automatic air conditioning, an updated 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and six airbags.

Since this is a facelift and not a new generation, the engine selection will likely be unchanged.

This means that the range will be powered by a 1.0-litre engine – with and without a turbocharger.

The naturally aspirated units produce 52kW and 96Nm, while the turbo generates 74kW and 160Nm.

It should also have a choice of three transmissions, including a five-speed manual, a five-speed automated manual (AMT), and a CVT.

In South Africa, the Kiger currently retails for between R249,999 and R359,999, so we’ll have to wait and see how much these improvements will add to the price when they arrive later this year.
