The City of Cape Town has confirmed that the traffic fine roadshow will return to the Civic Centre this week.
The roadshow staff will begin the service on Friday, 5 December to trial operational readiness, which will be open to city staff and persons with “bulk representations.”
“Bulk representations” in this instance refers to individuals with 20 or more outstanding fines and warrants.
The event will be opened to all motorists on Saturday, 6 December until 12h30.
It will then run from Monday, 8 December to Friday, 12 December.
According to the official press statement, the daily cutoff time will be determined by the operational staff in charge.
Any persons who are still in the queue at closing time will be given tickets to return the following day, where they will be allowed to join the front of the new queue.
Anyone who is interested in attending the roadshow is advised to consult the FAQ document beforehand, as it contains useful information and can help manage expectations about the event.
The roadshow offers the following services:
- Paying outstanding fines
- All fine-related enquiries for vehicles registered in their name
- Removing administration marks against their name on the Natis system
- Enquiring about warrants and/or summons issued in their name and finalising these
- Applying for a reduction in traffic fines issued within the City of Cape Town’s municipal boundaries
Attendees are required to have one of the following documents on them to be assisted: a South African Identity Document (ID), South African Driving Licence, South African Passport, or Traffic Register Certificate.
A popular service
The traffic fine roadshow was created to provide Cape Town motorists with a straightforward path to clear their outstanding fines at a discounted rate.
It is also a way for the city to clear a significant portion of its vehicle-related admin in a relatively short time.
The service has proven to be a big hit with road users in recent years and has been brought back several times due to popular demand.
“The roadshows are incredibly popular, and a win-win for all concerned. Motorists get to clear the slate and the city gets to reduce the mammoth number of outstanding fines and associated paperwork,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
“In fact, one can argue that motorists drive off with the better deal, considering the discounted amounts they pay, not to mention the ease of doing business at the roadshow compared to visiting individual municipal courts to resolve fines and warrants.”
Between July and September 2025, the City of Cape Town recorded 815,613 traffic by-law offences, an 11% year-on-year increase from the same period in 2024.
Officers also executed 27,771 warrants of arrest for outstanding fines and missed court appearances.
“We’re approaching the time of year with increased roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints as part of our festive season safety deployment. We’re also increasingly making use of tools like automated number plate recognition technology that can identify scofflaws with ease.”
“So, please take advantage of the roadshow or one of our other fine payment options, or run the risk of potential arrest this holiday season, if you have outstanding warrants,” said Alderman Smith.
