South Africans can purchase flight tickets for as little as R373 this January.
The country’s largest domestic air carrier – FlySafair – just published a list of flight prices for January 2026 on its official social media channels with the caption “Flights from R373*? No, it’s not a glitch. If it’s a glitch, you’d better book fast anyway.”
The airline is running a 30% promotional discount on all domestic flights booked until midnight, which are valid for travel until 24 October 2026.
This includes flights to all of South Africa’s major cities, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, and Gqeberha.
As expected, the cheapest options are for flights from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Joburg to King Shaka International Airport in Durban, which have departure listings as low as R372.67 on the 15th, 17th, 18th, and 25th.
The same prices are available for returning flights leaving on the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 20th, and 21st.
While the Joburg-Durban route naturally has the lowest rates on account of its shorter distance (just over an hour of flight time), the options for Cape Town to Joburg and Cape Town to Durban are also well below the industry average.
Cape Town to Joburg – which is one of the busiest air routes in the world – is currently advertised at R589.82 for a departing flight and R582.67 for a returning one (R1,172.49 in total), depending on what days you travel.
For reference, TopAuto used Google Flights to compare rates and found that the cheapest competitor flight for the same days was for a return ticket with Lift, which cost R1,510.
Lastly, FlySafair is offering departing flights from Cape Town International to King Shaka International for as little as R582.67, though the return trip is noticeably more expensive at a minimum of R862.67.
We checked FlySafair’s website to verify that the prices listed on their social media accounts are the same ones available on their booking page.

South Africa’s most on-time airline
FlySafair was recently named the most on-time airline in Africa and the Middle East.
This is according to the Cirium 2025 On-Time Performance Review, which found that FlySafair had an impressive 91.06% ratio of flights arriving on schedule – unofficially positioning it at the top of the global rankings.
The air carrier outperformed the world’s most punctual airline, Aeromexico, which had a 90.02% punctuality index, but was unable to officially claim the title because FlySafair is a smaller, domestic service that does not meet the technical requirements for the global rankings.
Two other South African airlines – Airlink and South African Airways – also made it into the top 25 performers.
