The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) has announced the 23 finalists for the 2021 South African Car of the Year awards.
These cars will compete for the overall winner’s crown, as well as for top spot in their respective segments.
The vehicles are divided into the following categories:
- Budget
- Compact
- Compact Family
- Family
- Premium
- Performance
- New Energy
- Adventure SUV
- Double Cab LCV
“The most competitive category will be our Compact Family, with six finalists,” said the SAGMJ.
“The Car of the Year committee is extremely pleased with the variety of vehicles that made the finalist round.”
The final round of scoring will conclude on 11 June 2021, as far more scoring still needs to be done on the vehicles.
Included in the scoring process is automated factors based on individual sales data for each vehicle, said the SAGMJ.
One notable difference between the finalists list and the semi-finalists list announced announced mid-May is the removal of the Luxury category, which comprised the Audi SQ7 and SQ8, and the BMW X5 M.
“The Category Winners and Overall SA Car of the Year Winner will be announced on 26 June 2021,” concludes the SAGMJ.
