New limited-edition Mini Cooper coming to South Africa – Pricing

Five new John Cooper Works (JCW) models will arrive in South Africa this month when Mini introduces the ultra-limited Daredevil Edition to our market.

Limited to 44 units, the edition completes the brand’s local performance portfolio across its battery-electric (BEV) and internal-combustion (ICE) offerings.

The special edition will be offered across the JCW stable, including the 3-Door Hatch Electric, Aceman, Convertible, 3-Door Hatch, and Countryman.

“The new John Cooper Works Daredevil Edition captures the racing spirit of the brand and celebrates Mini’s legacy of go-kart-like performance, racing heritage, and customisation in a way only Mini can do,” says Carmen Myles, Head of Mini.

“It also marks an important milestone for the brand locally as we introduce our first all-electric high-performance Mini models alongside the South African debut of the John Cooper Works Convertible.”

With limited quantities of the hot hatches available, buyers will be expected to part with anything between R994,200 and R1,126,267.80.

Three high-performance petrol variants

Across the range, the track-inspired models are finished in Midnight Black with striking red stripes and red-and-black-chequered JCW mirror caps.

The John Cooper Works 3-Door Hatch can be distinguished by its AC Schnitzer exhaust and rear bumper diffuser, with a JCW Chilli Red rear spoiler extension, JCW C-pillar trim, front, side and rear JCW winglets, and 18-inch Rallye Spoke wheels.

The hatch is propelled by its twin-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 170kW and 380Nm, which is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

As a result, it sprints from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250km/h.

Next up is the Countryman, which gains a high-gloss black JCW roof spoiler, enjoys a performance-focused chassis, four-piston monoblock fixed front brakes and electric power steering.

The five-door hatch is also fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor, which delivers 233kW and 400Nm, and can reach 100km/h in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h, thanks to its seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Joining Mini’s combustion range is the all-new John Cooper Works Convertible, which measures 3,879mm long and seats four, combining compact dimensions with a luggage capacity of up to 215 litres.

The new model features a single-joint strut front axle, multi-link rear axle, ventilated disc brakes and electric power steering.

The Convertible also gains Daredevil Edition exterior details, including 18-inch Rallye Spoke wheels and distinctive front and side winglets.

Performance is driven by the same 2.0-litre block and seven-speed transmission fitted to the 3-Door Hatch, offering the soft-top similar speed and acceleration figures, and a combined fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km.

High-speed electric hatchbacks

The two fully electric JCW Daredevil models – the Electric and the Aceman – are distinguished by a unique red-and-black multitone roof, exclusive to these derivatives, and red-and-black JCW mirror caps and rear diffuser.

The first of the two electric models, the three-door Electric, is fitted with an electric motor producing 190kW and 350Nm, letting it accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 200km/h.

This performance is powered by a 54.2 kWh battery that allows a range of up to 400km, and supports DC fast charging up to 95kW, enabling a 30-minute 10% to 80% recharge, and a five-hour 11kW AC full charge.

This model features intelligent chassis technology, ventilated disc brakes, electric power steering, and 18-inch wheels.

Joining it is the five-door electric Aceman, with an electric drive system producing 190kW and 350Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h.

It also boasts an all-electric range up to 380km thanks to the 54.2 kWh battery, with identical recharge times to the JCW Electric.

The Aceman is also fitted with a model-specific chassis, ventilated disc brakes and 19-inch wheels.
