Four new Chinese bakkies launched in South Africa – All priced under R500,000
South Africa’s bakkie buyers have four new options to choose from, with Chinese-badged LDV introducing four T60 Utility models to our market.
Earlier this week, the bakkie builder introduced the T60 Utility Single-Cab, aimed at South Africa’s small business owners, the agriculture and construction fraternity, and tradespeople.
Now, thanks to vehicle information specialists Duoporta, pricing has been revealed for the rest of the T60 Utility line-up, which includes a pair of 4×4s and two double-cab variants, with prices ranging from R299,900 to R429,900.
“With the launch of the T60 Utility, we’re strengthening our commitment to South Africa’s commercial vehicle market by delivering a dependable workhorse that combines capability, practicality and value for business owners and fleet operators alike,” said Gerhard Moolman, LDV South Africa CEO.
“The introduction of the T60 Utility marks another important milestone in our South African journey, reinforcing our focus on delivering hardworking commercial and lifestyle vehicles designed to meet the needs of our growing customer base.”
By introducing the four utility bakkies, LDV’s T60 range now competes in every bakkie segment, comprising entry-level workhorses, mid-spec general-use bakkies, and high-end, upmarket family vehicles.
Beyond the T60 series, LDV also imports the Terron 9 range of bakkies, which has its sights set firmly on South Africa’s flagship bakkie offerings.
Powertrain
Interestingly, the entire T60 Utility range features the same configuration, which couples a 2.0-litre inline-4 turbocharged diesel motor with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The engine produces a respectable 120kW and 410Nm, which the gearbox sends either to the rear wheels or all four, depending on the variant.
According to LDV, the T60 Utility bakkie maintains an average fuel consumption of around 7.5l/100km on the open road and about 8.7l/100km when driving in town.
However, Duoporta reports the average figure is closer to 9.3l/100km, which means the 73-litre fuel tank LDV fitted to the workhorse enables a maximum driving range of 785km between refuelling.
Despite sharing identical powertrains and dimensions – with an overall length of 5,395mm, 1,900mm wide and 1,830mm tall, and boasting a generous 3,155mm wheelbase – each bakkie has separate carrying capacities.
The rear-wheel-drive single-cab T60 Utility boasts a maximum payload capacity of 1,100kg, coupled with a maximum towing capacity of 3,000kg.
The all-wheel-drive variant single-cab features low-range capability and increases the carrying capacity to 1,170kg, but keeps the same towing capacity.
For the double-cab variants, the rear-wheel-drive T60 Utility can carry 1,000kg and tow 3 tonnes, while the all-wheel-drive double-cab can carry up to 1,060kg and tow the same weight as the rest of the range.
Features

As a result of its expansive wheelbase, the T60 Utility Single Cab offers drivers and passengers a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride.
In terms of safety features, the LDV is fitted with both driver and front passenger airbags, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), differential lock, hydraulic power steering, high-mounted brake light and rear fog lamp.
Additional comfort features include a front armrest, electric windows in the front and back for double-cab variants, a Bluetooth-enabled radio, air conditioning, and three distinct selectable driving modes.
These include Eco, Power and Normal driving modes, allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance to different driving conditions and workloads.
