New Hyundai Staria goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Hyundai Automotive South Africa has launched the new, facelifted Staria panel van and multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in the local market.

The new line-up comprises five distinct derivatives, including a three-seat panel van and nine- and eleven-seat buses, with prices starting at R719,900.

Upgrades made on the facelifted range include updated styling, a more sophisticated cabin, and improved infotainment technology.

“The Hyundai Staria has always offered South African customers a different vision of what a multi-purpose vehicle can be,” said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa. 

“This facelift strengthens that proposition, giving customers more technology, greater comfort and an even more distinctive vehicle without losing the versatility that makes the Staria so appealing.”

Johan Nel, Sales Director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, added that the facelifted Staria combines passenger-carrying capability with the comfort, technology and refinement expected by today’s customers.

“For business users, our dedicated fleet operation adds tailored solutions, account support and access to a nationwide network of 100 dealerships,” he noted.

Features

The facelifted Staria has received a comprehensive exterior refresh, which is evident when looking at the front, where the Korean automaker has introduced redesigned bumpers and radiator grilles.

According to Hyundai, the grille design has also been optimised to improve cooling and aerodynamic performance. 

The vehicle’s signature Horizontal Daytime Running Light has also been redesigned, transforming from a three-part design to a cleaner, single-light treatment.

Completing the facelifted Staria’s external design updates are a new wheel design and a revised rear bumper garnish.

Hyundai made the biggest changes to the interior, with a new-look dashboard boasting more tech than before.

The infotainment and instrument displays have both been upsized from 10.25 inches to 12.3 inches, and are accompanied by a redesigned centre fascia.

The Korean brand has also fitted the facelifted models with a new steering wheel, and updated the cabin detailing for a more premium feel.

Powertrain

While updating the look and feel of the new Staria range, Hyundai opted to keep the powertrain unchanged.

Under the hood of the South African-specification Hyundai Staria is the familiar 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine that produces 130kW and 430Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.

The result is a claimed average fuel consumption of 8l/100km, while all models across the board can reach 100km/h in 12.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 185km/h.

These prices include a 7-year/200,000km manufacturer’s warranty, a 7-year/105,000km service plan for the Luxury, a 6-year/90,000km service plan for Executive and Elite, and 7-year/150,000km roadside assistance
