New JMC Grand Avenue bakkie launched in South Africa – Pricing and features
The JMC Grand Avenue has officially launched in South Africa, taking the top spot in the Chinese carmaker’s growing bakkie family.
The Grand Avenue is a new range-topping pickup truck that is larger and more powerful than the brand’s Vigus Pro and Vigus models.
However, it’s also one of the most affordable flagship bakkies on the market with a starting price of R529,900.
To put that in perspective, the cheapest Hilux double cab asks for R583,500, while the base Ranger starts at R624,900.
Performance
JMC’s new bakkie is available with a choice of rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) setups.
In both cases, a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine sends 155kW and 500Nm down to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
As a result, the Grand Avenue achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.2l/100km, giving it a range of 1,111km on an 80-litre tank.
The vehicle itself has an approach angle of 30 degrees and a departure angle of 26 degrees. It also has 235mm of ground clearance and can wade through 800mm of water.
In terms of size, the JMC is 5,450mm long, 1,925mm wide, and 1,890mm tall, with a 3,270mm-long wheelbase.
It has a towing capacity of 3,500kg and can haul 870kg in the load bin.
Features
The Grand Avenue is currently limited to a single GL specification, which comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, an assisted tailgate, and side steps.
It also features keyless entry and start, an artificial leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, four speakers, a 7-inch digital driver display, and a 12-inch infotainment screen.
Safety and assistance functions include ABS, traction control, stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, four airbags, hill assist, hill descent control, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.
