New limited-edition Ford Mustang goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Ford has launched a new limited-edition version of the iconic Mustang in South Africa, known as the Nite Pony.

The Nite Pony is an exclusive cosmetic pack for the current-generation Mustang GT, which debuted locally in November 2024.

“Ford South Africa is adding a darker and more distinctive interpretation of its iconic performance car to its local line-up with the introduction of the limited-edition Mustang GT Nite Pony pack,” said the company.

“Building on the unmistakable character of the seventh-generation Mustang GT, the Mustang GT Nite Pony pack introduces a series of blacked-out exterior details that give the legendary sports car an even more purposeful presence, while retaining the exhilarating performance, technology and driving dynamics that define Mustang GT.”

The Nite Pony starts at R1,375,000, which is only R25,000 more than the standard GT. However, the Dark Horse remains the flagship of the muscle car series at R1,556,400.

Performance

Under the hood is the brand’s 5.0-litre naturally aspirated Coyote V8 engine, which develops an impressive 328kW and 540Nm.

This lets the performance car accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a mere 4.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 250km/h.

It is rear-wheel-drive for that classic muscle car experience, and gear changes are handled by a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which can be operated via the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The Mustang also has a limited-slip differential, and selectable drive modes – Normal, Sport, Track, Drag Strip, Slippery and Custom – which change the vehicle’s steering effort, engine response, transmission and electronic stability control to suit the situation.

Just keep in mind that the listed fuel consumption is 12.9l/100km.

Features

The Nite Pony sets itself apart from the base GT with exclusive black detailing, which starts with 19×9-inch front and 19×9.5-inch rear black-painted aluminium wheels.

These are complemented by black GT, 5.0 and Pony badges, black mirror caps, a black grille, a painted black roof, headlamps with black bezels, and a large rear spoiler painted in Absolute Black.

“Together, these details create a more dramatic interpretation of Mustang GT’s familiar shape, with the contrasting black elements highlighting its long bonnet, muscular rear haunches and fastback profile,” said Ford.

All of this is in addition to the kit found on the GT, such as heated and ventilated seats, Black Onyx leather upholstery, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 13.2-inch infotainment screen.

It also has assistance functions such as speed sign recognition, intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centring assist, evasive steer assist, and reverse brake assist.
