The new, fully-redesigned Mazda BT-50 will be available in South Africa from 15 July.
The new bakkie takes design cues from the company’s SUV range, and the interior has been crafted with the driver as the main focus, said Mazda.
Locally, the new Mazda BT-50 will be sold in three trim lines – Active, Dynamic, and Individual – with two engine options available.
Features
The new BT-50 bakkie mirrors certain exterior design elements seen on the company’s SUVs.
This is evident in the new grille with “three-dimensional signature wings” in chrome that extend outwards, as well as with the sharper LED headlights.
The interior continues the passenger-car inspiration, with Mazda stating that the BT-50 provides “a level of comfort on par with a luxury SUV”.
This is thanks to a rich standard equipment list, comprising:
- Cruise control
- Reverse camera
- Rear parking sensors
- Multifunction steering wheel
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 7-inch MZD infotainment display
In terms of safety systems, the new BT-50 offers hill launch assist, hill descent control, trailer sway mitigation, and seven airbags.
It scores a 5-star Australasian NCAP safety rating.
Performance
The entry-level BT-50 Active gets a 1.9-litre diesel engine, with your choice of manual or automatic transmissions that can be fitted.
This specification produces 121kW and 213Nm, and drives the rear wheels only.
The more expensive Dynamic and Individual models comes with a 3.0-litre, diesel motor producing 140kW and 450Nm – paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The range-topping Individual is the only model with four-wheel-drive, however.
South African launch
South African pricing for the new Mazda BT-50 range will be announced on 15 July, alongside the official online reveal.
All new BT-50 models are sold with a 3-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, service plan, and roadside assistance.
