The JAC N55 EV is now available in South Africa, at a starting price of R834,900 ex VAT.
The electric truck will be sold and serviced at JAC dealerships nationwide as part of the brand’s N-series line-up
“The N55 EV is our first environmentally-friendly electric vehicle tested in real-world conditions on South African roads,” said JAC.
The first N55 unit arrived in the country on 9 July, and will be used by Aeversa to install electric car charging infrastructure.
Specifications
The N55 EV is an electric truck that is driven by a liquid-cooled 96.77kWh LFP battery that has been water and fire tested, said the company.
The battery completes a full charge in two hours, and allows a 200km driving range, a maximum load capacity of 2.5 tonnes, and a maximum incline scalability of 16.7 degrees.
The truck then accelerates to 50km/h in eight seconds, while top speed is rated at 90km/h.
“Compared to conventional diesel engine trucks, the N55 EV achieves a 50% lower fuel to energy cost and a 30% lower maintenance cost,” said JAC.
Its wide interior (1,995mm) provides seating for up to three occupants, while systems such as Bluetooth, integrated navigation, electric windows, air conditioning, and an 8-inch infotainment display are fitted as standard.
In addition, driver assistance systems include ABS, a front pedestrian warning system, and an integrated fault diagnostics programme.
Price
While JAC stated the N55 EV truck has a South African starting price of R834,900 (excluding VAT), this is impacted by the rand/US dollar exchange rate.
The truck is also only available to order via request, said the company.
Each purchase of the N55 EV carries with it a 3-year/100,000km warranty.
