The new VW Polo recently launched in South Africa, landing in the country’s fiercely-competitive hatchback segment.
VW’s latest model starts at just over R300,000 for the “VW Polo” model, and goes up to R489,400 for the top-end GTI variant.
Sitting in the middle is the Polo Life DSG – which retails for R370,700.
For your money you get a stylish hatchback that is powered by a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine delivering 85kW and 200Nm.
This is paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox that drives the front wheels.
Inside, VW has included a digital instrument cluster, a 6.5-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, lumbar support for the front seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel, and shifter paddles.
These features are complemented by front and rear parking sensors, electric folding mirrors, and 15-inch “Essex” alloy wheels as standard.
Each model is then sold with a 3-year/120,000km warranty and 3-year/45,000km EasyDrive service plan.
The competition
The new Polo is facing strong competition in South Africa, and has big shoes to fill in the VW line-up.
