For those looking for a double cab, however, it can seem like an expensive route, with the more prominent options like the Hilux having a starting price of R518,800 for this body style.
We looked at the other end of the spectrum, to see what the five cheapest double cab bakkies in the country have to offer.
GWM Steed 5 2.2MPi double cab – R235,900
Starting off the list is the GWM Steed 5 with its 2.2-litre petrol engine, which provides the bakkie with 73kW and 180Nm.
In conjunction with a five-speed manual gearbox turning the rear wheels, the Steed manages a combined fuel consumption of 9.8l/100km.
A towing capacity of 1,700kg is also on the books, while the back can accommodate a load of up to 1,005kg.

Power is handled by a six-speed manual gearbox, ensuring the bakkie tows up to 2,500kg while the load box will carry a further 1,095kg.
Features on the Pik Up include manual air conditioning, electric windows, front and rear charging points, cruise control, fabric upholstery, and a four-speaker sound system.

Finally, we have the GWM P-Series with its 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel engine offering 120kW and 400Nm.
The generous power levels translate to a towing capacity of 2,250kg along with a loadspace capacity of 650kg.
Like the other bakkies on the list, the P-Series is also rear-wheel drive with power being delivered via a six-speed manual gearbox.
