Jaguar C-type Continuation – A gorgeous classic for the modern day

Jaguar has finished production of its first C-type Continuation, in line with the 70th anniversary of the original’s landmark achievement.

The new car is being built by Jaguar’s Classic branch in Coventry, UK and is inspired by the original Jaguar C-type which won the 360km-long, 50-lap Reims Grand Prix in 1952.

Only a limited number of units will be made, said Jaguar, and every model will be made according to customer specifications.

A classic reborn

The original vehicle was the first C-type to be fitted with disc brakes to win an international competition, said Jaguar.

“The victory at Reims was a glimpse to the C-type’s dominance at the following year’s Le Mans 24 Hour, and Jaguar’s continued supremacy in 1950s sports car racing,” it said.

This new model continues that legacy by incorporating the same Dunlop disc brake setup that brought victory to Jaguar at Reims.

Every unit of the Continuation is hand-crafted at the manufacturer’s plant and is built to the same specifications as the 1952 original.

Each C-type undergoes at least 400km of physical testing by Jaguar engineers, and the building process itself takes thousands of hours of intensive and highly skilled work, according to the manufacturer.

“We’ve combined original drawings, modern CAD techniques, and 3,000 hours of skill and attention to produce our first hand-built C-type, noting a historic landmark moment for Jaguar Classic,” said David Foster, head of engineering for Jaguar Land Rover Classic.

Customers will have a choice of 12 heritage colours to choose from, including the iconic British racing green, with a choice of either a solid or metallic paint scheme.

Furthermore, buyers are offered a range of eight different leather hues to customize the interior.

The first completed unit of the C-type Continuation has undergone testing and is ready to be delivered to its first excited owner.

The Continuation has also been approved by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), meaning it is eligible to partake in historic motoring events like the Jaguar Classic Challenge taking place at famous tracks like Silverstone.
