Crossovers competing against the R560,000 VW T-Roc

The updated VW T-Roc has landed in local dealers at a starting price of R563,800.

For half-million rand there are many competitors in the new car market, whether you’re after a premium crossover or an all-purpose SUV.

Despite this, the VW has been a popular choice for car buyers since its debut in 2020 and the new model brings even more to the table.

In the baseline T-Roc Design, you will find top-end equipment including automatic LED headlights with high-beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, smart entry and push-button start, parking assist with all-round parking sensors, a leather multifunction steering wheel, driver fatigue detection, and hill-start assist.

A configurable driver’s display is also included, as is an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and We Connect Go support.

A 1.4-litre, turbo-petrol engine under the hood then gets the job of powering the new VW, producing 110kW and 250Nm.

The motor mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the configuration taking the 1.2-tonne crossover from 0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 205km/h.

An average fuel consumption rating of 6.3l/100km also makes the T-Roc rather frugal, while a decent 445 litres of cargo space in the boot lends it practicality, too.
