The new BMW M3 and M4 haven’t even been released to the public yet, and we already have a limited edition on the cards.
The car comes from a partnership between BMW’s M division and the New York-based lifestyle brand Kith.
What came from this unlikely project is an aggressive G82 M4 Competition with exclusive styling elements and an even more exclusive nameplate.
You see, this is not only a special-looking M4, it is also highly exclusive as only 150 units will be produced.
Exclusive details
The sixth generation of the M3 was unveiled at the end of 2020, and, alongside it, came the second-generation M4.
These cars made waves not only for being the newest generations in a long line of loved vehicles, but also for their unorthodox styling.
The ongoing sentiment seems to be: You either hate them or you love them.
And one firm in particular really seemed to love them.
Kith loved the new M4 Competition Coupé so much, in fact, that they decided to collaborate with BMW to create this limited edition.
As the only thing the majority of us have seen by now is press images, I will be the first one to say that the KITH M4 is the best-looking G82 M4 that I’ve seen to date.
It features exclusive interior and exterior design elements that are unique to the Kith, and it will be available in three matte paint finishes – frozen black, frozen dark silver, and frozen brilliant white.
As standard, the M4 Competition x KITH will be equipped with the M Carbon exterior package – an optional extra on all other models.
This sees the already lightweight exterior and interior components being swapped for carbon items, and it allows for an exclusive carbon fibre roof with a Kith design.
The roof features grey Kith lettering with BMW M stripes woven into the carbon surface, and is available as an optional extra if the customer would prefer not having it.
Another impressive attribute that only this car has is reimagined BMW and BMW M logos.
For the first time ever, BMW allowed a third party company to redesign the iconic white and blue badge and place it on a BMW-branded vehicle from the factory.
The reimagined logo still has the standard design, but now features a rounded Kith emblem on the outer ring.
Furthermore, at the rear, another Kith badge identifies this special edition as an exclusive model.
The interior is no different, and it remains clear that this car is special.
Illuminated Kith badges on the front M carbon fibre bucket seats and another near the gear level catches the eye first, and adds an extra level of detail that is not available in a standard M4.
A large focus was put into the seats as the head restraints also received embossed Kith branding, and they were exclusively designed in M light blue and M red for further differentiation.
A centre console lid with embossed Kith logos is also present, and the M carbon styling package sees carbon trims on the seats, dashboard, and transmission tunnel.
M4 performance
Even though this is a special edition M car, no mechanical improvements were made.
Do not worry, however, as the standard M4 Competition engine still provides lots of grunt.
Below the hood a twin-turbo, 3.0-litre inline-6 engine provides a healthy 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque.
Consequently, the M4 Competition – including the Kith version – can reach 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds and go on to reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
An optional setting – available at an additional cost – will allow you to open the top speed to 290km/h.
As this is a performance focused car, it sits very low and wide, and receives black 19-inch and 20-inch wheels on the front and back respectively.
Price
A special edition car is never cheap – especially if only 150 units will ever be made.
As a result, the G82 BMW M4 Competition x KITH will start at $110,000 (R1,610,000).
