New Kia Picanto X-Line for South Africa – Starting price of R187,000

Three years after the release of the Picanto, Kia South Africa has revealed the new Picanto X-Line with crossover styling.

The new model features an updated interior and a redesigned front, with extra exterior elements that give it a crossover look.

The rest of the Picanto range will also receive minor revisions for 2021, and the X-Line will also replace the SMART derivative in the line-up.

Crossover styling

The front of the new X-Line sees a redesigned “tiger nose” radiator grille, and aggressively styled front bumpers.

On either side it is framed by LED headlights, and plastic cladding runs all the way from the front wheel arches to the rear bumper.

At the back, the full LED lights sit high – while below there is a redesigned rear bumper and a faux skid-plate to produce a more rugged look.

Every Picanto X-Line sits on 15-inch, 4-spoke alloy wheels as standard, and there is a variety of 10 exterior colours to choose from when ordering.

It is also worth mentioning that you can fit a sunroof at an additional cost.

Updated features

The new X-Line receives two-tone artificial leather seats and a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The latter controls services including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and incorporates a reverse camera with guidelines that displays on the screen when the reverse gear is selected.

The rest of the Picanto line-up also receives minor interior updates, but no exterior revisions.

The Picanto START is now fitted with power steering, manual air-conditioning, and an AM/FM Radio with Bluetooth, USB, and Aux inputs as standard.

Furthermore, the STREET derivative receives the same 8-inch infotainment system as in the X-Line, while the STYLE gets new alloy wheels.

Safety systems

The Picanto is the safest A-segment car that Kia has every built, according to the company.

This is achieved by using “Advanced High Strength Steel” to construct the car’s body.

Moreover, it is fitted with ABS, ISOFIX child seat supports, and dual front airbags as standard.

Price and performance

The new X-Line will only be offered in a 1.2-litre specification, with a 1.0-litre engine available in other models throughout the range.

The 1.0-litre engine produces 49kW of power and 96Nm of torque, while the 1.2-litre motor produces a higher 61kW and 122Nm of torque.

Each model is available in either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
