Porsche has unveiled the newest generation of the 911 GT3.
This new car has a redline of 9,000rpm, a hanging spoiler, and was born on the racetrack.
It is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre, six-cylinder engine – placed at the heart of this road-legal race car.
It produces 374kW of power and 469Nm of torque, sprints to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 317km/h.
This engine is virtually identical to the one found in the track-only GT3 Cup car, and it is mated to a 7-speed Porsche double clutch gearbox as standard.
For the enthusiast, a 6-speed manual transmission is also available.
The suspension of the 992 GT3 shares no parts with that of the current Carrera models, and was completely derived from the 911 RSR and GT3 cup cars.
It sits on GT-specific alloy wheels that measure 20 and 21 inches at the front and rear respectively, and lightweight brakes provides sufficient stopping power if the Ceramic Composite option is not selected.
If you do decide to go all out, Porsche also offers street legal track tyres.
To improve this generation’s dynamics over its predecessor, a new front fascia includes integrated cooling intakes as well as an adjustable front spoiler lip and diffuser.
A specifically-developed side skirt then optimises airflow around the wheels, while a large wing hangs from the back with a “swan-neck” connection.
This wing is adjustable for road and track conditions, and sits right above the redesigned rear diffuser.
In normal positions, the combination of these new aerodynamic assistants increases downforce by up to 50% when compared to the previous GT3.
And in track mode, downforce can increase by up to 150%.
Interior
For the first time in a 911 GT3, the steering wheel has a drive mode selector – allowing the driver to change the performance parameters of the car by turning a dial.
A multifunction steering wheel, “Race-Tex” interior upholstery, and four-way sports plus seats are then fitted as standard.
The gear selector on the automatic variant has been redesigned with the manual shifter in mind, and will allow the driver to change gears without using the paddles.
Apart from this, much of the new interior looks strikingly similar to the rest of the 911 line-up, but that is not a bad thing at all.
A GT-specific track screen reduces the amount of information in the displays to keep the driver’s focus on the road, and the all-important Chrono package remains available to time your track performances.
Availability
The new generation of the GT3 is expected to arrive at Porsche showrooms around the world towards the end of 2021, and will go on sale as 2022 models.
