South Africans will be competing for the title of world’s loudest car this weekend – Where to watch

South Africa will play host to one of the loudest car shows in the world this coming weekend, promising to leave visitors with their ears ringing by the time everything is wrapped up.

The South African arm of the International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA) will be hosting a “world record sound challenge” at the Sun International Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom in Durban on the 29th and 30th of October from 09h00 to 18h00.

Car sound world record attempt

Starting on Saturday, the IASCA challenge will consist of an International Decibel league, Bass Boxing, and Sound Quality sound-off, said Mohnish Ramgovind, an IASCA event organiser..

The event will see car sound fundies competing against one another to sound off as many decibels as possible to impress a panel of judges, with the winners receiving a trophy prize.

They will also get “acknowledgement worldwide that is better than any other accolade,” said Ramgovind.

Amateurs and professionals alike are invited to come and test out their sound systems, and participants are expected to go as loud as they possibly can.

“We’re shooting to go as loud as possible, so ear plugs may be a good idea,” said the organiser.

The current IASCA world record for the loudest vehicle is held by Team Targa at an incredible 178.72 decibels (db).

For context, that’s louder than fireworks going off in close proximity, which is pegged at 150db, while a typical passing motorcycle has an average noise level of 100db.

Roupesh, a member of Team Targa, said that the group is aiming to break the 180db mark this weekend.

Prices for entry to the 2022 world record event are as follows:

Sponsored by Killer Designs, Star Sound, Motown Inc, Gas Magazine, and Gas Addicts among others, it is an event not to be missed, and promises to be a glorious day out for those who wish to spectate, said Ramgovind.
