What the monthly payments are on the new Lexus RX

Anyone who is interested in taking home the new Lexus RX will need to pay a minimum of R27,000 per month, according to a calculation by TopAuto.

The Japanese SUV is available in four specifications, with prices starting at R1,382,500 for the entry-level 350 and R1,635,200 for the range-topping 500h F Sport.

Between these options there are three different engines, the first of which is a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox generating 205kW and 430Nm.

The other two powertrains are variations of a mild hybrid with a CVT transmission, the first of which is a 2.5-litre with 184kW, while the other is a 2.4-litre with 273kW.

All versions of the high-end vehicle feature Direct4 all-wheel drive and settings for Eco, Normal, and Sport, and the F Sport models also come with adaptive variable suspension.

Interior highlights on the RX include a heads-up display, a Sports steering wheel, semi-Aniline leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with lumbar support, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system, a wireless charger, keyless entry and start, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, surround-view cameras, and a dual-screen infotainment and driver display.

It also has blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, cornering assist, adaptive cruise control, and a Preventative Safety System which anticipates risks according to the driving situation, said the automaker.

Monthly payments

To calculate what the monthly payments on the new Lexus would be, we can use the following formula:

  • Car price – R1,382,500/R1,635,200
  • Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 10.75%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

According to these figures, the RX will require a minimum payment of R26,993 per month, up to R31,909 per month for the top-of-the-range version.

Financial experts then recommend that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.

From this, we can determine that anyone looking to bring the SUV home will need anywhere from R134,965 per month to R159,545 per month to be able to afford the vehicle.

However, this figure does not account for additional expenses that need to be considered, such as insurance, fuel, and maintenance.
