Most popular Nissan cars in South Africa

Nissan is a consistent top-performer in South Africa’s automotive landscape, regularly placing in the top five brands in each month’s best-sellers list.

Much of this success is due to the fact that the automaker has a relatively small but diverse selection of cars that covers every major segment on the market, from a double-cab bakkie to an entry-level crossover and a high-end SUV.

The carmaker even has its own factory in the country located in Rosslyn, Gauteng, which is responsible for two of its biggest hits – the NP200 and the Navara.

The NP200 is by far the most popular vehicle produced by the Japanese car firm, which makes it all the more surprising that it is being discontinued this month.

A large part of its appeal is owed to the fact that it is the only compact light commercial bakkie still available in our market, but its 16-year run means its design is outdated and the company is finally pulling the plug with no immediate replacement on the cards.

The second-best-selling Nissan in South Africa is the Magnite, which serves as one of the most affordable crossovers on sale today with a starting price of R232,500.

The Navara bakkie is another top choice given the popularity of the vehicle type among local consumers, and the Qashqai has evidently found a fanbase among those looking for a premium crossover.

The final two entries are the X-Trail and Patrol which sell in similar numbers – an impressive feat for the latter given that it is over R1 million more expensive than the former.
