Best-selling cars in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux is still holding on to its title as South Africa’s best-selling vehicle, though its numbers are drastically lower than what they were the month prior.

The bakkie managed to secure 2,094 new customers in April 2024, but this is a 32,5% decrease compared to the 3,104 units it achieved in March.

The Ford Ranger, meanwhile, saw a small improvement to reach 2,073 units, helping it to climb three spots to reach second place.

While its sales are lower than last month’s, the VW Polo Vivo was another big winner in April, placing third with an overall 1,766 sales.

In a similar vein, the Suzuki Swift moved up from seventh to fourth place with 1,725 units, and the Toyota Corolla Cross rounded out the top five with 1,573 units, though like the Hilux, this is noticeably lower than what it achieved in March.

The other five cars to make it onto the top 10 include the Isuzu D-Max, Toyota Starlet, Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, Nissan Magnite, and Hyundai Grand i10, all of which moved between 1,202 and 825 units.

The top 20 then saw a few shake-ups with the Nissan NP200, GWM P-Series, and Kia Sonet dropping out in favour of the Hyundai i20, Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, and Renault Triber – the latter of which is the only MPV to make it onto the list.

In total, the top 20 models in South Africa accounted for 20,019 units out of the 38,172 units sold last month, representing 52.4% of the new-car market.
