Double cabs competing against one of South Africa’s newest Chinese bakkies

South Africa recently welcomed a new Chinese carmaker called LDV, which has introduced a fresh-faced bakkie to the market in the form of the T60.

The T60 double cab is officially on sale in 10 derivatives with the flagship Max Luxe model going for R790,000.

This particular option gets a four-wheel-drive system with a rear diff lock, and is treated to a powerful 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel plant producing 160kW and 500Nm.

The power unit is mated to an eight-speed auto shifter, returning an average fuel consumption of 9.3l/100km. The high-rider can also tow 3,000kg, and carry 900kg in the load bed.

Equipment on the LDV comprises 19-inch alloy rims, automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, side steps, roof rails, keyless entry and start, heated front seats with electric adjustment, leather seat covers, a leather multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, a 10.25-inch infotainment centre with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, and automatic air conditioning.

This is in addition to assistance features like electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, driver alert monitoring, hill start and descent control, and 360-degree cameras.

Each purchase of the LDV comes with a 5-year/200,000km engine warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service plan.
