Haval has made big changes to its Jolion line-up in South Africa, introducing an entirely new series while drastically cutting down the previous selection.
The standard Jolion catalogue has been reduced to just two models, which now bear the “City” qualifier, while the remainder of the units, including the more powerful S and HEV options, can only be found in the new higher-spec Jolion Pro series.
However, fans of the crossover who can do without the flashy trimmings of the Pro still have one other option, though they will need to act fast to secure one.
That’s because Haval has taken the launch of the revised Jolion as an opportunity to introduce a limited-edition version of the best-selling car, of which only 120 examples will be made available in South Africa.
Popular and exclusive
The Jolion was first launched in South Africa in May 2021 where it achieved a first-month sales record of 707 units despite consumer spending still being hampered by the pandemic.
It went on to sell an impressive 9,068 units in 2022, which prompted the introduction of the flagship S and HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) specifications in January 2023 to capitalize on its success.
As of December 2023, the Jolion HEV was the third best-selling hybrid in the country, according to GWM.
Fast forward to June 2024, and the crossover has received a major update with three units, including a limited-edition model to commemorate the launch.
The exclusive option is called the Jolion Luxury Limited and is based on the City Plus specification, though it comes at a R50,000 premium as the former costs R420,950 compared to the latter’s R370,950.
Each unit has a special badge labelled “x/120” where the x denotes the production number of the car in the limited run of 120 units.
It also gains a number of unique visual elements, including new headlights comprised of four LED studs.
These headlights are accentuated by bespoke daytime running lights (DRLs), which run alongside and underneath the LEDs before heading downwards.
The DRLs then split to form a separate vertical strip with a chevron-style bend.
Furthermore, the Luxury has leatherette seats to replace the standard cloth ones on the rest of the Jolion City line-up, and unique 18-inch alloy wheels.
It also gains access to a panoramic sunroof, which is otherwise exclusive to the Pro models.
The rest of the equipment sheet is the same as the City Plus, including keyless entry and start, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, black roof rails, a multifunction leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, a 3.5-inch driver’s display, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, and dual-zone climate control.
Additionally, the crossover is fitted with assistant items like cruise control, driver fatigue detection, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, hill assist, ABS with brake assist, tyre-pressure monitoring, and automatic collision unlocking.
As for the engine, you can expect a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol plant, which produces 105kW and 210Nm.
This connects to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km.
All Haval Jolions are sold with a 5-year/100,000km warranty, a 5-year/75,000km service plan, and 5-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.
