Haval has updated the popular Jolion range for South Africa, splitting it into two distinct families named the Jolion City and Jolion Pro.
The City models are billed as the entry-level options in the line-up and feature most of the styling cues we’ve come to associate with the Jolion, with their starting price listed at R345,950.
Meanwhile, the Pro versions bring a more athletic look and an expanded equipment list which, of course, is accompanied by a higher barrier to entry of R391,150.
For a limited time, Haval is also offering 120 units of the limited-edition Jolion Luxury – positioned between the City and Pro – with unique equipment and design elements.
Jolion City
The updated Jolion City range, which consists of the City and City Plus specifications, continues the more traditional design language of its predecessor, bar a few cosmetic alterations.
The crossovers sport a revised grille with vertical bars, restyled air intakes, new front and rear bumpers, and updated wheels.
Propulsion is still derived from a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol block pushing out 105kW and 210Nm, which pairs with a six-speed manual gearbox in the City and a seven-speed, dual-clutch (DCT) automatic in the City Plus.
The manual returns a combined fuel usage of 7.8l/100km and the DCT a slightly higher 8.1l/100km.
Standard fittings in the City range comprise 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, fabric seats, a 3.5-inch multi-info driver’s display, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, cruise control, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
Safety and assistance systems further encompass driver fatigue detection, rear parking sensors, hill-ascent control, four airbags, ABS with brake assist, tyre-pressure monitoring, and automatic collision unlocking.
Upgrading to the City Plus adds automatic headlights and wipers, black roof rails, an Eco-leather steering wheel, paddle shifters, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, a reverse camera, and hill-descent control.
Jolion Pro
The Jolion Pro is available in five flavours comprising Premium, Super Luxury, Ultra Luxury, S Ultra Luxury, and HEV Ultra Luxury trims.
These crossovers wear a hexagonal grille with fourteen chrome-tipped vertical bars, distinctive headlights sitting atop vertical daytime running lamps, a more aggressive front bumper, black-lined wheel arches and side skirts, an edge-to-edge lightbar on the tailgate, a black spoiler, and a venturi-look rear apron.
Three powertrains are on offer across the five Pro derivatives, with the Premium, Super Luxury, and Ultra Luxury all making use of the same setup as the Jolion City Plus with its 105kW and 210Nm and seven-speed DCT.
The S Ultra Luxury features the same turbocharged 1.5-litre mill and DCT which has been cranked up to produce 130kW and 270Nm. Despite this, it registers a lower average fuel usage of 7.5l/100km.
The pinnacle of the range, the Jolion Pro HEV sees a hybridised version of this powertrain pushing out 140kW and 375Nm and reporting a fuel spend of just 5.1l/100km, and it swaps the DCT for a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
Each model in the Pro portfolio provides Standard, Eco, Sport, and Snow drive settings; with the S Ultra Luxury and HEV further complemented by multi-link independent rear suspension for sharper handling when compared to the composite torsion beam of the rest of the range.
As the introductory model, the Jolion Pro Premium is equipped with all the amenities of the Jolion City Plus, however, it sees a manual instead of an automatic aircon, a polyurethane steering wheel, and one extra parking sensor at the rear for a total of four.
Buyers who opt for the Super Luxury variants can then expect their crossover to be delivered with 18-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, Eco-leather seat covers, an electric driver’s seat, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, six speakers, and six airbags.
They also get a suite of advanced electronic helpers such as adaptive cruise control with intelligent cornering, traffic jam assistance, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-center keeping, smart dodge, and traffic signal recognition.
The Ultra Luxury entries are completed by a heads-up display, a wireless charger, an electric front passenger seat, heated front seats, driver seat ventilation, a 360-degree camera programme, front parking sensors, an automatic parking system, blind-spot detection with lane-change assist, rear-collision warning, and emergency lane-keeping.
