Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux saw a big jump in sales this July, helping to secure its title as South Africa’s favourite bakkie.

The Japanese pickup improved on its numbers from June by 586 units, landing it the top spot with 3,021 purchases.

In a similar vein, the Ford Ranger had a great month as it went up by 390 units to reach a new total of 2,258, putting it in second, well ahead of the last podium entrant.

Speaking of, Isuzu’s performance was a bit slower this time around, as it dropped from 1,794 to 1,641 sales, though this is still a big achievement as it was the last bakkie to make it past the 1,000-unit mark.

Fourth place is still held by the Mahindra Pik Up which sold 790 units, while the Nissan Navara is trailing behind in fifth with 450 showroom victories.

Outside the top five, the discontinued Nissan NP200 is still pulling decent figures thanks to excess stock, as it sold a total of 353 models.

Right behind it is the VW Amarok with 334 sales, followed by a second Toyota with the Land Cruiser 79 moving 289 units last month.

The final two positions in the top 10 are filled by the GWM P-Series with 242 purchases, and the Peugeot Landtrek with 103 units.

Overall, the top 10 bakkies accounted for 9,481 sales, or 21%, of the 44,229 new vehicles purchased in South Africa in July 2024.
