The VW Polo Vivo was the best-selling hatchback in South Africa in July 2024, moving a grand total of 2,591 units.
This was enough to also make it the second-most popular vehicle overall, only losing out to the Toyota Hilux bakkie.
Furthermore, the VW managed to achieve more than double the sales of the second best-selling hatchback, the Hyundai Grand i10, which sold 1,269 units.
The Hyundai’s sales are still noteworthy, however, as the Grand i10 usually hovers around fourth place, but was able to jump two places ahead of the Toyota Starlet and VW Polo.
The Starlet sold 1,222 units while the fully-fledged Polo gained 1,211 registrations, putting them in third and fourth place, respectively.
In contrast, the Suzuki Swift had a rather slow month as it only recorded 1,045 purchases, landing it lower down on the rankings than usual to take fifth place.
Outside the top five, the Toyota Vitz in sixth found 864 new owners while the Suzuki Baleno in seventh shifted 772 units.
The recently updated Hyundai i20 landed in eighth place with 424 sales, and the Suzuki S-Presso followed suit with 376 purchases.
The final hatchback to clear the top 10 was the Renault Kwid, which sold 284 units in July.

These were the top 10 best-selling hatchbacks in South Africa in July 2024, according to Naamsa The Automotive Business Council.
Note that the Hyundai Grand i10 is sold in both hatchback and sedan formats, but the report does not make a distinction between the sale of each type.
