The new Haval flagship SUV launching in South Africa this month

Haval’s new H7 flagship is set to land in South Africa before the end of the month.

The automaker recently updated its local website with a new information page specifically on the H7, where it boldly states the SUV is “launching January 2025.”

The H7 will head up the Chinese brand’s local portfolio, as its name suggests, sitting above the H6 in terms of price, size, and specifications.

What to expect

Depending on the market, the new H7 sees a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol powertrain under the hood or a 1.5-litre hybrid.

The non-electrified engine generates a healthy 170kW and 380Nm which is channeled to either the front or all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. This reflects a bump of 20kW and 60Nm versus the equivalent H6.

Those who opt for the hybrid configuration can expect a higher combined output of 179kW and 530Nm, equal to the H6 HEV, with drive relayed to the axles via the manufacturer’s “Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.”

Comparing the size of the siblings, the incoming H7 is quite a bit bigger than the H6, the latter of which isn’t that small of an SUV to start with.

The dimensions of these vehicles are shown below:

Dimension Haval H6 Haval H7
Length 4,653mm 4,705mm
Width 1,886mm 1,908mm
Height 1,730mm 1,780mm

The squared-off silhouette of the new H7 also speaks to its nature as more of an off-roader while the H6 is your typical city slicker.

Stylish 19-inch alloys fill up the wheel wells of the new SUV, and the arches as well as bottom edges of the bodywork are protected with black plastic cladding should you decide to brave the great outdoors.

Regardless of the terrain, the cabin of the H7 should keep its occupants steeped in comfort.

It’s fitted with niceties such as a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a heads-up display, heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, keyless entry and start, and dual-zone climate control.

A smattering of driver assistance systems is also included like adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, parking sensors, hill assist, hill-descent control, and 360-degree cameras.

These features are, of course, based on which model you end up purchasing.

Haval has yet to disclose any details regarding the pricing of its new range-topper.

That said, we found an official Haval dealer who already has a single unit of the H7 listed for sale at R707,081.

The particular example boasts the aforementioned 2.0-litre driveline and is in the “Super Luxury” trim which is usually the mid-tier specification in Haval speak, suggesting there could be pricier as well as more affordable models heading our way.
