New Audi Q5 launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Audi South Africa has announced the arrival of the third-generation Q5 range in our market.

The luxury SUV arrives in six trim lines and two distinct body types across the Q5 SUV, Q5 Sportback, SQ5 SUV, and SQ5 Sportback range, with prices starting from R1,275,000.

“For more than 15 years, the Audi Q5 has been one of the defining vehicles in the luxury midsize SUV segment, trusted by customers worldwide for its blend of sophistication, versatility and Audi engineering excellence,” said Audi.

“Now completely reimagined, the latest generation introduces a bolder design language, a more immersive interior and an elevated sense of comfort and refinement.”

According to the German automaker, the all-new Q5 range marks a significant milestone in Audi South Africa’s ongoing product line-up.

It does so by combining Audi’s latest-generation petrol and diesel powertrains with one of the brand’s most important nameplates.

Upgraded performance

The entire Q5 range has benefited from powertrain upgrades, with higher power outputs across the new line-up.

Diesel Q5 S line and S line Black Sportback derivatives are fitted with Audi’s turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel motor, which now produces 150kW – 10kW more than the previous generation – and 400Nm.

Petrol derivatives of these two models are also available in both SUV and Sportback guise and are equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 200kW.

This motor is mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission, which sends power to the quattro ultra all-wheel drive system to help the petrol derivatives accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds.

At the top of the range, the 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine fitted to the SQ5 and SQ5 Black SUV and Sportback derivatives produces 270kW and 550Nm.

This power is also sent to all four driven wheels via the seven-speed S tronic transmission, allowing the flagship models to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the S sport suspension provides stability.

Features

Built on Audi’s PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, both the SUV and Sportback derivatives boast a 2,820mm wheelbase and the German brand’s new design language, with sculpted surfaces and a more athletic look.

The front features an elevated Singleframe grille framed by sculpted headlights and functional air curtains to enhance the Q5’s visual width and technical specification.

A pronounced shoulder line runs the length of the Q5, while the rear design features minimalist finishes, including a three-dimensional light strip that spans the width of the vehicle and an integrated diffuser and distinctive tailpipe.

Every model in the new Q5 range is offered exclusively in S line specification, which introduces unique exterior styling and standard 20-inch alloy wheels.

Buyers can choose from ten exterior paint finishes, including the new Sakhir Gold Metallic, Grenadine Red Metallic and Tambora Metallic.

Customers who seek greater customisation can choose from Audi’s personalisation options, including the Carbon Style package and larger alloy wheels.

Inside, the new Q5 range features Audi’s new Digital Stage, which integrates the 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch curved MMI touch infotainment display.

The 10.9-inch MMI passenger display is an optional extra, allowing front-seat occupants to access navigation and entertainment functions through Active Privacy Mode without distracting the driver.

The cabin also features integrated ambient lighting, electrically adjustable sport seats, three-zone deluxe automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging and Audi connect services.

Audi’s latest generation of connected technologies and driver assistance systems are also introduced throughout the range.

These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Emergency Brake Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, Park Assist Plus, Surround View Cameras, Side Assist, Exit Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Assist and Audi Pre Sense.

Beyond these features, Audi offers two optional technology packages – Tech Plus and Tech Pro – which add further optional features like a 3D surround camera system and Remote Park Assist.
