Mercedes-Benz has a busy schedule ahead of it, as it plans to launch at least four new cars in South Africa in 2025.
Interestingly, all but one of the nameplates heading our way this year are AMG models, suggesting that the brand thinks its standard lineup is well-served for the time being.
In any case, motorists will soon be able to get their hands on a variety of new vehicles, from high-powered coupes to a luxury SUV.
This includes the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, CLE 53, SL 63, and an all-new addition to the G-Class called the G580 EQ Edition One.
What to expect in 2025
Mercedes has not announced the release date for any of its upcoming vehicles, meaning that most of them will likely be appearing later in the year.
That being said, the carmaker has already revealed the pricing for the new G-Class (otherwise known as the G-Wagen), so it’s fair to assume that it will be the first to land on local roads.
The G580 EQ is the first G-Wagen to be offered with an all-electric powertrain, comprising four e-motors with a combined output of 432kW and 1,164Nm.
This enormous power reading means the luxury SUV can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 180km/h.
The motors are connected to a 116kW lithium-ion battery, which affords a driving range of 473km and can be topped up to 80% in 32 minutes with a 200kW DC fast charger.
Of course, it doesn’t come cheap, as the G580 will be one of the most expensive Mercedes cars in South Africa upon its arrival, clocking in at R4,647,456.
Buyers are well-compensated for this sum, though, as the electric G-Wagen has the same ladder-frame architecture as its coveted petrol counterpart and can perform all of the same off-roading feats thanks to fancy tricks like a simulated differential lock.

Another model set to appear soon is the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance, which is already listed on the company’s configurator under a “keep me informed” tab.
The new AMG, otherwise referred to as the GT Coupe, is a two-door supercar that combines a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine with an electric motor to produce an absurd 450kW and 850Nm.
This lets it sprint to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds before reaching an incredible top speed of 315km/h.
It also features AMG Active Ride Control suspension and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, letting it find the ideal balance between comfort and handling.

Next up is the AMG CLE 53, which the carmaker previously confirmed would arrive in late 2024 or early 2025.
In other words, it should go on sale within the next few months, adding a more powerful option to the CLE roster.
Like many of Mercedes’ newer cars, the 3.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine is assisted by a hybrid system, giving it access to a generous 330kW and 560Nm.
The e-motor even has an Overboost function that can temporarily raise the coupe’s output to 600Nm, letting it race to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds before hitting an electronic cap of 250km/h.
The 53 also benefits from the 4Matic AWD system, AMG Ride Control suspension, and rear-wheel steering for better maneuverability.

Finally, there’s the AMG SL 63, which has been around for a few years but has yet to reach South Africa.
The SL 43 was introduced back in 2023, but fans will finally be able to get their hands on its more powerful sibling before the calendar clicks over to 2026.
The 63 can tap into a 4.0-litre, turbocharged V8 with electrical assistance generating an impressive 430kW and 800Nm – enough for a 0-100km/h dash of 3.6 seconds.
It also comes with a soft-top roof that can open and close in 15 seconds while traveling at speeds of up to 60km/h.
