The Toyota Hilux is undefeated as South Africa’s best-selling bakkie, moving a staggering total of 2,923 units this March.
It was an incredibly good month for vehicle sales overall, but one model that stood out in particular is the Isuzu D-Max, which knocked the Ford Ranger out of its long-held spot as the nation’s second favourite pickup.
The D-Max sold a grand total of 2,250 units, while the Ranger still put up an admirable fight with 2,179 units, meaning the top three all cleared the 2k mark.
Fourth place was once again taken by the Mahindra Pik Up with 1,215 sales, but the final spot in the top five saw another upset with the Toyota Land Cruiser being replaced by the Nissan Navara.
The Navara sold 835 examples, while the Land Cruiser dropped to sixth place with 476 units.
Next up is the GWM P-Series, which moved up from the eighth to the seventh spot with 402 buyers.
The inverse is true of the VW Amarok, which dropped to eighth place with 275 sales.
The final two positions were then taken by the Foton Tunland G7 and GWM Steed, which made their way to 236 and 119 new homes last month, respectively.
In total, the top 10 bakkies made up a combined 10,910 sales, representing 22% of the 49,493 vehicles bought in South Africa in March.
