Every sedan you can buy under R300,000 in South Africa

There are only six sedans left in South Africa that you can buy for less than R300,000.

The sleek body type has waned in popularity over the past decade as consumer preferences have shifted over to SUVs and their smaller counterpart – crossovers.

While there are still several sedans on sale in South Africa, the vast majority of these models are associated with premium brands such as the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, or Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Consequently, there aren’t a lot of options left in the affordable sector, but there are still a few brands keeping the segment alive.

The most affordable sedan you can buy right now is the Proton Saga, an entry-level model from the Malaysian carmaker that costs just R209,900.

The segment has also seen two recent updates with the introduction of the next-gen Suzuki Dzire and the facelifted Honda Amaze.

The Dzire is the sedan counterpart to the fourth-gen Swift hatchback, featuring the same engine and equipment for the low price of R224,900.

The Amaze, meanwhile, has received a considerable visual overhaul and new features while barely moving the needle on its asking price of R254,900.

Another option is the Hyundai Grand i10 which, like the Dzire, has a hatchback sibling.

If you prefer the longer body style, you can expect to pay R279,900 for the Hyundai.

The other two entries in this sparsely populated segment are the Kia Pegas and Suzuki Ciaz, which go for R292,995 and R294,900, respectively.
