The new Suzuki DZire is launching in South Africa in the coming days.
The budget-friendly sedan will be available in three flavours upon its arrival with prices starting at R224,900.
The three specifications span one powertrain, two transmissions, and two trim levels – the GA and GL+.
What you get
Serving as the entry point into the range, the base DZire GA offers the basics of what you’d expect from one of the most affordable sedans in the country and not much else.
It’s delivered with daytime running lights, manual aircon, a multi-info driver’s display, cloth seating, and 14-inch steel wheels in styled plastic covers.
A radio must be fitted at an additional cost, though it does come with pre-installed speakers.
Safety equipment – standard across all variants – further encompass rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, ABS, and six airbags.
You’ll have to upgrade to GL+ to get the additional niceties many buyers seek.
This includes front fog lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, chrome highlights, a 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, and a reverse camera.
The DZire’s boot is capable of swallowing a decent 378 litres – a noticeable upgrade of 113 litres in comparison to the Swift hatchback upon which it is based.
It also measures 3,995mm from front to back, 1,735mm from left to right, and 1,525mm from top to bottom, making it one of the smallest options in its segment.

Propelling the DZire family is a 1.2-litre petrol mill that is good for 60kW and 112Nm.
Both the GA and GL+ are available with a five-speed manual gearbox, though only the GL+ can be purchased with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The manuals go from 0-100km/h in 11.7 seconds and top out at 175km/h, while the CVT does the deed in a slower 13.2 seconds and reaches a lower 170km/h.
Suzuki has yet to reveal the fuel usage for its new sedan, however, it does feature virtually the exact same powertrain as the popular Swift hatchback.
The Swift’s consumption ranges from 4.4-4.6l/100km, depending on the select gearshift. The slightly heavier DZire shouldn’t be too far off from this figure.
