Best-selling used cars in South Africa right now – With pricing

The Ford Ranger is the most popular used car in South Africa right now.

According to new data from AutoTrader, the Blue Oval’s bakkie sold a grand total of 2,025 units in July 2025.

This puts it well-ahead of its rival, the Toyota Hilux, which sold 1,636 units.

This was still enough to earn second place, mind you, as the VW Polo came in third last month with 1,400 sales.

Right behind it is the Polo Vivo, which found 1,322 new homes.

Fifth place was taken by the Toyota Fortuner with 815 units, making it the best-selling preowned SUV in the country.

This was followed by the Suzuki Swift in sixth with 690 units, and the Isuzu D-Max in seventh with 578 units.

Up next is the Hyundai Grand i10, as 546 examples found new owners in July.

The Toyota Starlet came ninth with 508 sales, and the Toyota Corolla Cross took the final spot in the top 10 with 486 sales.

Interestingly, this is the second month in a row where neither the BMW 3 Series nor the Mercedes-Benz C-Class featured in the top 10.

Both models used to be consistent entries on the list, but both have fallen out of favour with motorists while cheaper cars like the Swift, Starlet, and i10 have seen a surge in interest.

This suggests that households are giving up on the idea of owning a prestigious badge and are more concerned than ever with affordability, mirroring the trends we’ve seen in the new-car market.
