Best-selling cars under R300,000 in South Africa

Budget-friendly cars were one of the main contributors to the auto sector’s impressive sales numbers this August.

The sub-R300,000 VW Polo Vivo continues to be a firm favourite among consumers, as it sold a grand total of 2,314 units last month.

Not far behind is the Suzuki Swift, which moved a considerable 2,101 units.

Next up is a Chinese entry – the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro – which made it into the top three thanks to 1,339 purchases.

Right on its tail are the Hyundai Grand i10 and Suzuki Fronx, which came fourth and fifth with 1,210 and 1,160 sales, respectively.

The Starlet, which came fifth last month, landed in sixth this time around with 1,160 sales, and the Suzuki Ertiga in seventh place was the last model to clear four digits with 1,055 units.

A pair of Toyota models, the Vitz and the Starlet Cross, came eighth and ninth with 885 and 755 sales in August.

Last but not least is the Kia Sonet, adding 752 units to the total.

Speaking of, the top 10 budget models sold a combined 12,872 units, equating to a 24.8% share of the 51,880 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
