Best-selling cars under R300,000 in South Africa

Wallet-friendly cars are more important than ever if the sales numbers for July 2025 are anything to go by.

Last month, the VW Polo Vivo proved to be South Africa’s best-selling passenger car and the second best-selling vehicle overall behind the Toyota Hilux.

The sub-R300,000 Vivo sold 2,409 units, putting it well-ahead of the second most popular budget entry – the Suzuki Swift.

The Swift moved 1,872 units, and the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro wasn’t far behind in third with 1,604 units.

Next up is the Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,464 purchases, followed by the Toyota Starlet in fifth place with 1,322 sales.

The Suzuki Fronx crossover landed in sixth with 1,220 units, and the Kia Sonet had a particularly good month with 1,103 sales, helping it to claim seventh place.

After this came the Suzuki Ertiga people carrier with 980 showroom victories, and the Nissan Magnite with 790 sales.

Rounding out the top 10 is the Toyota Starlet Cross, which found 757 new customers in July.

In total, the 10 best-selling cars under R300,000 racked up a combined 13,521 units, representing 26% of the 51,383 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
