Entry-level Hyundai Venue vs The Market – What you can buy for the same price

Hyundai recently launched a new entry-level model for its smallest crossover range, the Venue 1.2 Motion.

Thanks to this new trim, the Venue line-up now has a South African starting price R259,900.

Setting this new Venue apart from the previous entry-level model is the fitment of a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol motor instead of a smaller, turbocharged engine.

The new unit generates 61kW and 114Nm, and pairs to a five-speed manual transmission as standard.

This allows the 1.2 Motion to reach 100km/h in 14.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 158km/h – while combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.5l/100km.

Standard equipment inside this Venue includes a multifunction steering wheel, manual air conditioner, fabric seats, electric windows, and an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and app-based navigation.

It’s also fitted with a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, two airbags, and ABS.

The Venue 1.2 Motion then wears 15-inch wheels and boasts a ground clearance of 195mm.

Each purchase of a Hyundai Venue includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty with an additional 2-year/50,000km powertrain warranty, a 3-year/45,000km service plan, and 7-year/150,000km roadside assistance.

The market

Introducing a new entry-level trim to the Hyundai Venue range has brought it in line with many starter-crossovers in South Africa.

This heated category saw several new competitors join the ranks in 2021, including a few of the country’s best-selling SUVs.
