Chery Tiggo 4 Pro vs SUVs at the same price – What’s on offer

Chery has re-entered South Africa with a bang by launching the reasonably-priced Tiggo 4 Pro.

This compact SUV is stepping into one of the country’s most competitive vehicle categories, with a starting price of R269,900.

Locally, the Tiggo 4 Pro is sold in four specifications – Urban, Comfort, Elite, and Elite Special Edition (SE) – and powered by two engine and three transmission options.

In the Urban and Comfort models, a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine produces 83kW and 138Nm, and drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual or CVT transmission.

The Elite and SE derivatives feature a turbocharged version of the same engine – generating a decent 108kW and 210Nm – connected to either a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox.

Despite the Tiggo 4 Pro already being on offer, Chery has yet to release its official acceleration, top speed, or fuel consumption figures for the local market.

Each purchase of a new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro also includes a 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.

The market

The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a newcomer that has a lot to prove in South Africa.

The brand previously entered the market over 10 years ago, but departed from the country soon thereafter – only to re-launch in 2021.

Therefore, for Chery to be successful and to carve itself a spot in South Africa, the Tiggo 4 Pro will need to beat the popular compact SUVs detailed below.
