Best-selling SUVs in South Africa

With another record-breaking month under its belt, Toyota’s Corolla Cross was once again the best-selling SUV in South Africa.

At 1,693 units sold, the Corolla Cross beat popular vehicles like the VW T-Cross and Hyundai Venue with ease, after going on sale in November 2021.

This is likely due to its relatively wallet-friendly starting price of R349,900, larger dimensions than most of its competitors, and the sought-after Toyota badge.

In second place is another Toyota, the Fortuner. This marks one of the only months since the compact Urban Cruiser has launched that the Fortuner beat it in sales.

Not to worry, though, as the Urban Cruiser is still the fourth best-selling SUV in the country – after VW’s T-Cross in third.

In fifth sits the Ford EcoSport, with 13 more units sold in February 2022 than in January.

Notable models that are not on the best-selling SUV list are the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Mazda CX-5. These vehicles placed 13th and 15th in January, respectively.

The SUVs

The best-selling SUVs in South Africa in February 2022, according to Naamsa’s new vehicle sales report, are listed below.

For the purposes of sales reporting, many crossovers are recorded in the SUV segment – and thus feature in this best-sellers list.

It must be noted that BMW and Mercedes-Benz do not report sales by model and were therefore not included.
