Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

At more than double the sales of the runner-up, the Toyota Hilux was the most popular bakkie in South Africa in April and Toyota’s best-selling vehicle overall.

The Toyota Hilux exceeded 2,000 sales in April, reaching a grand total of 2,788 units sold.

Second place went to the Ford Ranger with over 1,100 models sold last month.

The Ranger is a firm favourite among local enthusiasts, and the latest iteration of Ford’s bakkie is set to release in the third quarter of this year alongside its SUV counterpart, the Everest.

Meanwhile, Nissan sold just under 1,000 of its NP200, making it the most popular small bakkie in the country.

Isuzu’s latest D-Max, which launched in South Africa last month, sold a respectable 777 units, too.

Mahindra continued to see good reception for its Pik Up line, and GWM sold over 250 units of its P-Series.

VW’s Amarok, on the other hand, cleared just over 150 units, though it’s possible many interested consumers are waiting for the release of the new Amarok later this year.

Finally, brands such as Mitsubishi, JAC, Mazda, and Peugeot sold less than 100 units in April, with the favourite models being the Triton, T8, BT-50, and Landtrek respectively.

The bakkies

Over 9,500 LCVs were sold in South Africa last month.

Though this figure accounts for different body types such as panel vans, as well as bakkies, it nevertheless illustrates how impressive the best-sellers’ sales figures are.
